 YURY RUZHYEV / YURA 

​

Yury is multidisciplinary performer in film, theatre, and circus. Originally from Moscow, where he studied theatre and acting at Boris Shukin Theatre School, affiliated with Vakhtangov Theatre (2008), performance arts at The Green Theatre in Moscow (2005), and Circus skills at  The Circus Academy in Toronto. He also holds MBA from Moscow University (2001). Yury is always taking classes and participating in workshops on circus, theatre, clown, mask, voice, and acting. He is very proud to have studied with John Turner, Philippe Gaulier, Sonia Norris, Adam Lazarus, Helen Donelli, Allan Turner, Dean Gilmour, Peggy Baker, Ross Manson. Now he is studying stand up comedy at The Second City. Yury is an actor, performer, clown, bouffon, dancer, magician, acrobat, aerialist, director, writer, and producer.

Yury’s one-man impersonations show - Viva Cabaret - tribute to the greatest divas has been entertaining audiences on three continents for over 10 years. Featuring over 75 grotesque parodies of the most popular stars of screen and stage.

​

Yury has been hosting shows, festival and cabarets all around the world for the last 15 years. (Toronto Circus Festival, Pan Am Games at the Harbourfront, Canada Day at Square One to name a few) and performed in various cabarets all around the world, including Moscow, Paris, Berlin, and New York.

​

Ruzhyev does TV and Film work in USA, Canada, and Russia.

​

In 2014 Yury created and produced “Komunka” - a play about civil rights in Russia. Summer 2015 brought a theatre project - “In The Dark” - exploration of personal taboos and sexual liberties. Yury has recently debuted with a solo clown project "No Elephant Show” at Montreal and Milan Clown Festivals. This coming year, he is co-producing and acting in “In Sundry Languages" a multilingual play presented at Toronto Fringe.
